Golf launch monitor appNew in 3.4

Your iPhone is the launch monitor.

Put your iPhone on a tripod next to the ball and hit real shots. DeepSwing films the ball at 240 frames per second and shows ball speed, launch angle, direction, carry and total distance a moment later. Then the shot flies on a 3D driving range or a full 18-hole course. No radar, no sensor, no extra device. In the App Store since DeepSwing 3.4, with 5 free shots every week.

Launch Monitor · New in 3.4

Your iPhone.
Your launch monitor.

Put your iPhone on a tripod and hit real balls. No radar, no sensor, no extra device.

  1. 01

    Set up.

iPhone on a tripod, 1.5 m (5 ft) opposite on the far side of the ball. When the circle turns green, you are ready.

  2. 02

    240 frames per second.

The camera films the ball and the club head and freezes impact sharp.

  3. 03

    Every number, instantly.

Ball speed, launch and direction measured, carry and flight calculated. A moment after the shot.

Shown with example values.

Measurement

240 frames per second, frozen sharp.

The camera films the ball with a very short shutter, so it stays a sharp circle instead of a streak. From its position and size in every frame, DeepSwing calculates ball speed, launch angle and direction in three dimensions. Club speed shows up when the camera sees the club head.

  • Ball speed, launch and direction measured
  • Club speed when the head is in view
  • Every shot saved as a short clip

What it measures

Every number and where it comes from.

A launch monitor is only as good as its honesty. So every number says whether it is measured from the video, calculated from the flight or estimated.

NumberWhere it comes from
Ball speedMeasured from the 240 fps video
Launch angleMeasured from the 240 fps video
DirectionMeasured from the 240 fps video
Club speedMeasured when the camera sees the club head
Carry and totalCalculated from the measured launch
Apex and sideCalculated from the measured launch
SpinEstimated from club, speed and launch

Reading spin from balls with an alignment stripe is in training.

Flight

Carry, roll and curve, like the real thing.

Carry, total, apex, bounce and roll come from a flight model fitted to TrackMan tour averages and to side-by-side shots with a Rapsodo MLM2 PRO. The app estimates spin from club, speed and launch, and says so.

  • Carry, total, apex, side
  • Bounce and roll on the fairway
  • Spin clearly marked as estimated

Play

A driving range and real 18-hole courses.

Every shot flies on a 3D range with target rings and greens, or on full courses with seasons and weather. Add range games, daily challenges and up to four players at home.

  • Six worlds from links to canyon
  • Closest to the pin, longest drive, robot mower hunt
  • Stroke play, match play, Stableford

Swing camera

The swing behind every number.

A second iPhone or an iPad becomes the swing camera. Then every shot comes with its swing video and a full DeepSwing analysis: Swing Score, the most important fix and the clubhead trail, replayed in sync with the ball flight.

  • AI analysis for every shot
  • Replay in sync with the flight
  • Saved with the shot

How it works

  1. 1

    Set up the tripod

Opposite you, on the far side of the ball, about 1.5 m (5 ft) away and 1 to 1.5 m (3 to 5 ft) high.

  2. 2

    Align

Lay a club along your target line. The checklist turns green when the iPhone is level and the ball lies still.

  3. 3

    Hit

Every shot is measured automatically. Place the next ball and keep going.

Questions, answered

Can an iPhone really be a launch monitor?

For ball speed, launch angle and direction, yes, as long as it films at 240 frames per second, stands on a steady tripod and has enough light. DeepSwing calculates carry and roll from those numbers, like most launch monitors do indoors.

How accurate is it?

In side-by-side sessions with a Rapsodo MLM2 PRO, ball speed was within about one percent on average and launch angle within one to two degrees, with the tripod height measured correctly. One centimeter of height error costs about one percent of ball speed, so the app checks your setup.

Does DeepSwing measure spin?

No. Spin is estimated from club, speed and launch and shown that way. Reading spin from balls with an alignment stripe is in training.

What do I need?

An iPhone that films 240 frames per second, a tripod that reaches 1.5 m (5 ft), plenty of light, and a place to hit into a net or out onto the range.

What does the launch monitor cost?

You get 5 free shots every week. For unlimited shots there is the Launch Monitor plan, monthly, yearly or as a one-time lifetime purchase, or Complete together with the AI Coach. You see prices in the app, in your currency.
